At the DSS, State Examinations for the practice of the professions of Actuary and Junior Actuary are held, organised by Sapienza University of Rome:

Two sessions are held each year; the first written test, for both State Examinations, is generally scheduled in the months of May and November.

The requirements for admission to the State Examinations and the related tests, as well as the regulations governing the actuarial professions, are currently established by Presidential Decree no. 328 of 5 June 2001. The decree:

  • defines (Art. 26) the profession of Actuary and the profession of Junior Actuary;
  • establishes (Art. 25) the two sections of the Register of Actuaries: Section A, relating to the profession of Actuary, and Section B, relating to the profession of Junior Actuary;
  • lists the qualifications required for admission to the State Examination for qualification as an Actuary (Art. 27) and as a Junior Actuary (Art. 28);
  • sets out the structure of the State Examinations for qualification in the above-mentioned professions (Arts. 27 and 28);
  • provides for certain transitional provisions (Art. 29).
