Bridging the gap between real world decision making and mathematics – Multiobjective optimisation in action

il Prof. Matthias Ehrgott (Lancaster University Management School) terrà il seguente seminario in modalità mista (online e on-site) in data martedì 21 settembre 2021 ore 11:00 (stanza 34, 4° piano, Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche): Bridging the gap between real world decision making and mathematics – Multiobjective optimisation in action Abstract:  In this talk I will present several studies that illustrate the power of multi-objective optimisation in supporting decision makers facing conflicting goals. These studies are drawn from the fields of transportation (airline operations, traffic modelling), health (radiation therapy treatment) and manufacturing (composite materials). I will illustrate the widely differing mathematical methods used in these applications and emphasise the common benefits of the multi-objective optimisation approach. These include an improved understanding of the problem achieved through additional insight into the problem structure, improved support for decision makers through the ability to properly account for trade-offs between conflicting goals, and the considerable benefits that result in terms of quality of decisions and/or improved decision making processes.   Link all'evento: https://uniroma1.zoom.us/j/89427962123?pwd=VFFvM1Ryb0ZQV0dORkhrTERBUXpRdz09
