The center aims to provide quantitative tools and methodologies to support the entire decision-making process for the optimal planning and management of highly complex systems present in the service, production and public administration sectors. The support provided covers from the extraction and management of system functioning data, to the measurements of their performance (including economic aspects, environmental factors, social equity and sustainability) to the creation of mathematical models for the representation, simulation and optimization of these systems.

The Center of Excellence promotes an integrated approach in the use of Network Analysis and Text Mining techniques for the study of territorial networks of services/companies/economic organizations, as well as unstructured data extracted from social media. Impact of ageing process and population movements on the territory is considerable. Current dynamics tightened spatial differences and many contexts are hit by a real demographic crisis that can be defined as structural. The Competence Centre offers scientific, training and practical operational activities to both scholars and professionals who work in monitoring and management of depopulating territories, also through targeted policy intervention.

Recent changes in the reference framework of Italy's public and private pension systems make it necessary for the actuary to employ new calculation tools and to adopt an integrated approach to risk assessment (considering demographic, economic, and financial risks). The Competence Center offers consultancy, training, and research activities in the field of actuarial modeling for risk assessment and for the definition of a sustainable pension fund in the current Italian demographic and economic context.

The center promotes the development of dynamic and complex quantitative models integrating automated processes for the identification and measurement of financial and insurance risks, which are essential for banks, financial institutions and insurance companies in defining decision-making strategies for managing risks. It offers expert consultancy and advanced training for building evolutionary models/scenarios to describe the future dynamics of the financial and actuarial flows.

The Centre aims at providing:
i) support and advice to who intends to develop individual surveys (construction of questionnaires, definition of sampling designs, survey planning);
ii) development and assessment of subjective measures;
iii) training for developing skills in the field of surveys.
Furthermore, the Centre intends to contribute to the growth of greater awareness of how subjective data is measured and analyzed by adopting rigorous methodologies.

This Competence Center aims at studying models and methods for the measure and the analysis of micro and macro-economic problems. Special emphasis is on Finance (public, macro-finance and financial intermediaries), Economic Growth, Economic Inequalities, Impact Analysis and Big Data Analysis. We use mostly Official Statistics and use software as R, Matlab, STATA - Fortran and C++ are also used with compilers. The Centre’s research stakeholders are academics, professionals and practitioners from both national and international institutions dealing with Economic Statistics and Econometrics.

Statistica economica ed Econometria

Competence centres are specialised structures of the Department of Statistical Sciences dedicated to research, development, education and technology transfer in numerous application contexts. The multiplicity and variety of these centres reflect the high level research carried out by the Department of Statistical Sciences in several fields and the existing synergies with other research institutes, the world of industry and public institutions in general. A strength of these centres, inherited from the very nature of the Department to which they belong, is their multi-disciplinary character. The existing collaboration between different disciplines makes possible the resolution of complex problems and the development of innovative solutions, otherwise precluded toless diversified research structures.
